Dr. Kevin Moore, PhD, CWI, specializes in design, metallurgy, welding and Failure Analysis of materials with 25 years experience, ranging from Staff Scientist at The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to Managing Consultant at Exponent.
ENGINEERING DESIGN & MATERIAL CHOICE
Thoughtful design and material choice are the backbone of producing an outstanding product with long service life. Expert support is given in materials, heat treatment, surface finish, protective coatings and more.
METALLURGY
Material microstructure dictates the physical properties we observe. Using visual inspection, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and other tools, the microstructure of components is examined so that engineering properties can be optimized.
WELDING INSPECTION AND SUPPORT
As a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 35 years of hands-on welding experience, I bridge the gap between engineering design and production. From training and certifying weldors to final weld inspection, all aspects of engineering projects will be covered.
FAILURE ANALYSIS
Things break. When they do it can come at great cost due to production loss and down time. Failure Analysis will determine root cause issues, enabling the problem to be fixed in the shortest timeframe possible, getting production back up and running.

Current and former client projects range from large-scale construction to energy production to consumer electronics. Primary fields of expertise are gas transmission pipeline, oil recovery systems, nuclear energy, blast (high strain rate) containment, pressure vessels, steam-methane reformers and consumer electronics.
Kevin T. Moore
Dr. Moore earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins in 2001. He is a Certified Weld Inspector with the American Welding Society and has welded since he was 15 years old. From monitoring nuclear materials for the DOE to performing root-cause failure analysis for private companies, Dr. Moore has a deep understanding of materials, corrosion, and engineering.
Dr. Moore also has a great love of STEM education. He has taught at universities and companies and has produced and hosted engineering television shows for Discovery, PBS, and National Geographic.
